PUPILS from secondary schools across Hillingdon have chosen their book of the year.
Jimmy Coates: Killer by Joe Craig, won the title, and a close second was Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver.
Children from fifteen secondary schools in the borough took part in the annual Book of the Year event at Winston Churchill Hall in Ruislip last Thursday, March 16.
Each secondary school was represented by six pupils who have been reading books short listed for the Book of Year title over the last two terms. Each group performed a five minute presentation about the their favourite book in a style of their choosing, including poems, plays and dramas.
Director of Education, Youth and Leisure, Chris Spencer, announced the winning title.
The event was organised by Hillingdon Council's library service and has been sponsored by General Mills, who presented a cheque for £7000 to the library service.
The money from General Mills goes towards secondary, primary and picture book of the year awards.
