THE sun has made a rare appearance, with the South enjoying its warmest day of 2014 on Monday. Embrace the change this week, with my five suggested events in the Hillingdon area for under £5.
Wednesday March 12
To celebrate International Women's Day, a lunch is being held for women who lived through World War Two. The £4 fee gets you tea, coffee and biscuits, as well as a plate of fish and chips. A cold pudding finishes off proceedings. The event takes place at Childs Court, Hemmen Lane, Hayes, 11am-2pm.
Thursday 13-Friday March 14
‘Hearts’ follows the trials and tribulations of Sacred Heart FC. While the lads are more interested in ‘scoring’ than winning, the girls also have a few tricks up their sleeves in this hilarious battle of the sexes. Tickets are £5 in advance and can be booked online at www.compasstheatre.co.uk.
Saturday March 15
Blow out the winter cobwebs with a four-hour ride to and from Ruislip Lido. Meeting up at West Drayton train station at 10am, cyclists will ride along mostly quiet roads and footpaths. There will also be an opportunity to stock up on energy with refreshments at the pub or park café. For more information, visit www.goskyride.com.
Sunday 16-Thursday March 20
The touring exhibition of 200 Faces will make a stop off at 2 Longwalk Road, Stockley Park, Uxbridge. This free event features photographs from artists who have focused on the human face and the array of emotions portrayed. For more information, visit www.thephotographicangle.co.uk/exhibitions
Monday March 17
Warhammer fans can head down to Charville Library in Hayes between 4 and 5.30pm to prove their mettle. Build and paint figurines, before putting your army and strategies to the test across miniature battlefields.
