UXBRIDGE library is set to welcome visitors on Monday, April 7, after a multi-million pound facelift.

The re-opening completes the Hillingdon Council’s £10m libraries investment programme. All 17 libraries in the borough have now seen substantial improvements.

The library, in Uxbridge High Street, will re-open from 1pm with staff ready to greet residents and reintroduce them to the services.

As well as the traditional library services, the revamped six floors will offer:

New books and a bright, attractive new layout

50% increase in floor space

More computers with free wi-fi access

Extended opening hours

Expanded local studies and archives service

Café area

The leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ray Puddifoot, who will officially open the library. He said: “The transformation is nothing short of spectacular and I am sure residents will agree.

“While other councils are closing libraries or reducing opening times, with the re-opening of Uxbridge Library we will have rebuilt or refurbished every one of ours - the only council in the country to do so.”

The library closed for refurbishment in March 2013 and the council opened temporary library facilities in The Pavilions.

There has been a marked increase in visitor numbers at all of the borough’s libraries following their rebuild or refurbishment.

Uxbridge library will be open from 8am-8pm Monday-Thursday; 8am-5.30pm on Fridays; 9am-5.30pm Saturdays and 11am-5pm Sundays.
