THE CLIMATE Camp is being backed by Hayes & Harlington MP, John McDonnell who said he "whole heartedly welcomes the Camp".

Around 10,000 people in Mr McDonnell's constituency could be forced out of their homes, and even though he backs the campaign, he said he wants to ensure protesters do not disrupt passengers.

Mr McDonnell, who visited the Camp today, said: "There will be some form of direct action but I hope it will not be of the form that will harm or disrupt journeys for passengers flying from Heathrow.

"The Camp gives people an opportunity to campaign against the expansion of the airport and also discuss the local impact of climate change."

Mr McDonnell also said he hopes that the week of Camp for Climate Action will "force the government to do something about the decisions BAA are taking about building the new runway."
