POLICE have identified known troublemakers at Climate Camp who could bring disruptive demonstrations to the peaceful protest.

Assistant Commissioner, Tarique Ghaffur, said: "On Tuesday night we did see a shift in the mood of the camp as a number of people who we know from previous demonstrations arrived at the camp itself.

"And these are people who we know have been involved in demonstrations such as May Day, Sack Parliament in October 2006 and G8.

"We also know the presence of other environmental groups."

Penny Eastwood, 52, of North Yorkshire, has travelled down to take part in camp. She said: "I think we are under attack by people who know we are getting the message across about climate change, without directly causing harm to people at Heathrow Airport.

"There are so many people here that if there are one or two protesters, who choose to break the law, we will not know and if the police know who they are, they should do something about it.

"We are here to peacefully protest and that is what we will continue to do."
