A COUPLE who met when they were in their seventies are celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary.
Doris and Ken Allen met in 1995, when they both moved into Sherleys Court in Ruislip, and, ten years on, say they are as happy as ever and are enjoying their 11 great-grandchildren.
They were married at St Martin's Church in Ruislip on August 16, 2007, and immediately sold their separate one-bedroom apartments and bought a two-bedroom one together at the retirement home.
Doris, 81, and Ken, 83, once thought about leaving their retirment home in Ruislip to be nearer their family but at the last minute decided they could not face leaving friends.
Doris said: "We got as far as visiting a development in Kent, at the suggestion of my daughter, and even put a deposit down on a flat.
"But when we told our friends here, they all said oh no, you can't leave'.
"We thought about it and realised that we didn't really want to go. There's such a good social life here and we all get on very well.
"We've put down roots and so in the end we decided to stay. All our friends were delighted."
