A PROTESTER at the Camp for Climate Action told the Hillingdon Times her reasons for gluing herself to a metal gate this week.
Penny Eastwood, 52, of Hebden Bridge, North Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage on Wednesday, August 15, for attaching herself with Super Glue to a gate at the site on Sipson Lane, Sipson.
She said: "The police have constantly been using provokative behaviour towards us and have time and time again undermined our actions.
"They raided the camp without notice and it was scary for a lot of people. That was my way of trying to peacefully show them we are here to stay."
The night before there were reports of protesters trying to remove police from the camp and at around 7.30pm a number of police entered the camp to help calm the situation.
A spokemans for the Met Police, said: "At approximately 7.15pm on August 14, officers from the Forward Intelligence Team who were patroling the camp were confronted by demonstators who attempted to physically remove them from the site. Colleagues were called in to support them and maintain public order.
"The policing team was re-established on site shortly afterwards. The Metropolitan Police Service has stated from the outset that we wish to facilitate lawful protest. Our police presence continues on site at the request of the landowner."
