HAREFIELD Hospital has been named among some of the best performing hospitals for heart surgery in the country.

A survey carried out by the Healthcare Commission (HC) revealed that surgeons at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust performed a record number of operations and had one the best survival rates.

The surgery statistics were made available on a public website last year after surgeons teamed up with the HC to record their performance on http://heartsurgery.healthcarecommission.org.uk.

In the past 12 months the site has become increasingly popular, receiving thousands of visitors each month and allowing patients to make more informed decisions about their treatment.

The hospital carried out 6,482 operations over three years to March 2006 and had a survival rate of 95.6 per cent.
