CLIMATE Campers are back at the Camp following 24 hours of direct action.

Some protesters say the massive police presence was 'over the top' and led to tensions.

Activist Amy Hurrell, 29, from Reading, said: "Police kept saying they wanted to know what we were doing. During the march they kept stopping us and making us wait before we carried on. The whole march took five times longer than it needed to because they were being silly about it. That's what caused the tensions - they should have just let us march as we said we wanted."

But the Met insists it was just making sure the protest was lawful.

Commander Jo Kaye said: "Today we've continued to facilitate the demonstration outside BAA and then escorted the participants back to the camp.

"Our policing style to date has supported what I have stated right from the start, which is we want to facilitate lawful protest but where people seek to break the law we will deal with them.

"The weekend just passed is one of the busiest of the year for Heathrow, the busiest airport in the World. People have been allowed to make their protest, but we have also kept the capital moving.

"There continues to be a policing operation in place. This will run until the protesters choose to leave."
