THOUSANDS of people are expected to turn up for an all day celebration to mark seven years of broadcasting for Panjab Radio in Hayes.

On Sunday, September 2, at the studios in Springfield Road, Hayes, the day will begin with a religious hymn - Sukhmani Sahib Ji Da Path at 10am, from the Sikh Holy book, recited by Sikh preists.

That will be followed by a selection of other hymns and religous songs performed by popular Panjabi singers from India.

Throughout the day, vegetarian food will be served, called Guru Ka Langar, which is something given free in all Sikh temples on a daily basis.

Managing director, Surjit Singh Ghuman, said: "Celebrating our birthday in signature Panjab Radio style is what we are known for.

"I honestly don't think any other radio station provides for the community like we do and this is what Panjab Radio is about."

In the past, events held by Panjab Radio have attracted more than 8,000 people, so the birthday celebrations are hoping to bring together many more.

The radio station is broadcast on DAB radio in London and West Yorkshire, on Sky Channel 0130 and online at www.panjabradio.co.uk .
