FAMILIES got to know their local Safer Neighbourhood Teams and discuss what changes they would like to see in their area.

Residents met with officers at the Streets Ahead event in Brunel ward on Thursday, August 23.

The day is held for Hillingdon Council and the Safer Neighbourhood Teams to engage with the community and work together by giving advice on issues from crime to recycling.

One of the activities last week was a 24 foot climbing wall, which was used to consult with young people over their environment. Every climber had to complete a survey about their perceptions of safety in the environment before they could climb.

The council's cabinet member for environment, Councillor Sandra Jenkins, said "Brunel was a fantastic Streets Ahead' event, which really connected with families and young people in a powerful way.

"Because the activities were of interest to families, the families consulted opened up and told us what we needed to do to improve the area for them."

The Streets ahead scheme takes place in different wards, on the fourth Thursday every month.
