THE FINALS of one of the largest knock-out Rugby League tournaments in the world was held last week in Hillingdon.
The Carnegie Champion Schools Tournament took place at RAF Uxbridge in Hillingdon Road, where young children from school years seven and ten came from around the country to compete against each other.
This season's tournament on Friday, August 24, involved 476 schools including 1,298 boys teams and 221 girls teams. The year seven boys final was played at Wembley Stadium as a curtain raiser to the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final on Saturday August 25.
Wing Commander, Stuart Lindsay, said: "RAF Uxbridge was delighted to have the opportunity to support this prestigious event. The competition is going from strength to strength and this was evident through the high quality of games played.
"It is important for the values of teamwork, fitness and personal achievement to be encouraged as they are as important within the world of sport as they are within the RAF.
"It was a fantastic day and all the young people were a credit to their schools. We look forward to next year's competition."
