Refurbishment work has begun to make a crematorium in Ruislip more accessible for disabled people.
Breakspear Crematorium, which is 50 years old this year, will soon have new disabled toilets, improved access to the grounds and better lighting.
An electric wheelchair for visitors to use to help them attend services and inspect memorials in the grounds will also be bought.
The initiative is being run jointly by Hillingdon and Harrow councils.
Councillor Sandra Jenkins, cabinet member for environment, at Hillingdon Council, said: "The new facilities are excellent and create an environment to give comfort and peace to the bereaved".
