OFFICERS have revealed more than £7million was used to police the planned week of protests at Heathrow Airport last month.
At a Metropolitan Police Authority meeting on Thursday, September 6, Commander Bob Broadhurst announced that policing Climate Camp cost £7.3 million.
He said: "Approximately £4.3 million is the sum that would have been incurred in any event in terms of salary.
"The remainder is for costs incurred specifically because the event was taking place, for example, overtime and catering."
Protesters came from around the country and abroad to campaign against climate change and the proposed expansion of the airport.
The protest included more than a day of direct action, during which police in riot gear and mounted cops were deployed.
