GRACIE, a six-months-old springador, has left the Dogs Trust rehoming centre at Harefield for a new life working with servicemen and others recovering from trauma.
She arrived at the Harvil Road site in July after her owner had a change of circumstances and could no longer care for her and linked up with Service Dogs UK shortly after.
Gracie, a cross between a springer spaniel and a labrador, will be helping those suffering from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from their time in the armed forces or emergency services.
“We don’t usually have dogs as young as Gracie and we were unsure how it would go but she’s absolutely wowed everyone,” said Jane Hoare, foster liaison at Service Dogs UK.
“[She] hasn’t been paired with a veteran yet but as soon as she finds a match, she’s going to be amazing.”
Two weeks ago, Gracie met the Duke of Kent when he visited the organisation.
