THE Queen’s Colour Squadron team from RAF Northolt is shortlisted in the Fundraising Team of the Year category of the RAF Benevolent Fund’s annual awards.
The 25-man team pulled a 28-ton BAe 146 aircraft, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and raised more than £1,000.
They were taking part in the Hardest Day Challenge, an initiative to commemorate the sacrifice and courage of those that risked their lives during the Battle of Britain.
The Hardest Day is the name given to the air battle on August 18 1940 in which the Luftwaffe attempted to destroy RAF Fighter Command in a single day.
The challenge was led by Corporal James Woolls, 34. He said: “Being based at RAF Northolt, which has strong links to the Battle of Britain, we were all keen to mark this important anniversary.”
Jason Shauness, Director of Fundraising and Communications at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “The aircraft pull was a fantastic example, showing just how creative our fund-raisers were in 2020.”
The RAF Benevolent Fund Awards are now in their ninth year.
