RUMOURS that housing is planned by Hillingdon Council on protected land at Yiewsley Recreation Ground are being denied at the Civic Centre.    

In a statement, Hillingdon says it has no intention of building on land which the council designated Metropolitan Open Space in January 2020, to ensure its continued protection.   

The protected space does not, however, include the neighbouring Otterfield Road site (former Yiewsley pool) and Falling Lane site (Yiewsley Library and car park land)

There, the council is proposing to gain planning permission to build. 

Yiewsley Rec includes a football pitch and children’s play area and has Green Flag status. It is one of the borough’s 63 Green Flag award-winning parks.

A new library is planned for Otterfield Road, while the current Yiewsley Library site is designated for a rooftop amenity and the former pool site as a community garden and children’s play area.

Work will begin this Spring on a leisure centre in West Drayton, including an eight-lane swimming pool, leisure pool, sports hall, rooftop 3G football pitch, gym, soft play area, climbing wall, youth zone and café. 
 
Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, said: “I would like to reassure our residents that the council has no plans to develop on the protected Metropolitan Open space land at Yiewsley Recreation Ground.   
 
“Our proposed plans seek to sustainably develop the boundary area of the park and in no way infringe upon land we previously agreed as protected.”
