DOGS Trust, the country’s largest dog welfare charity, rehomed more dogs called Bella this year than any other name.
Poppy, Daisy, Milo and Buddy came in close behind.
Over the last 12 months, the charity, whose West London centre is at Harefierld, has rehomed 10,151 dogs, with cross-breeds being the most adopted. Jack Russells, lurchers, collies and Staffies also featured high on the list.
In 2022, canine lodgers stayed with the charity for an average of 46 days, with some being snapped up by new owners in just a few days.
There have been 389 puppies born in its kennels this year. Dachshund puppies made up the majority.
The heaviest dog cared for was Titan the St Bernard who weighed in at a whopping 83.5kg.
With around 1,750 dogs in its care at any one time, all of whom need regular exercise, the charity’s canine carers have walked the equivalent of to the moon and back….twice!
