AGE UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent is today launching a new partnership with Two Generations, a leading national home share provider.

It aims to match older people, who are looking for help or companionship at home, with a younger person who can lend a hand and needs somewhere affordable to stay.

Homeshare was launched in 2019 as a way of reducing isolation for people living alone, reducing the risk of an older person needing to go into a care home and encouraging relationships between generations.

Graham’s family were looking for some extra support for their father after he was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, aged 69.

They wanted someone who would be around to remind him to take his medication and attend his lunch club. They also wanted Graham to have company and a feeling of security, especially at night.

Lee was living in a bedsit and looking for more comfortable and affordable accommodation. He had volunteered at a lunch club for older people before the pandemic and felt a Homeshare would be perfect.

Lee works in the entertainment industry and can fit his work around the 10 hours per week of support.

Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow, and Brent matched the couple in June 2022 and, since then, Lee has found additional groups for Graham to attend, including a walking football group.

Each Homeshare match is unique and carefully agreed.  It may include some cooking or light housework, help with computers and technology, maybe some shopping or gardening, as well as occasional trips out.

A Homeshare match does not involve any personal care.
