LABOUR is promising a tough crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Uxbridge and South Ruislip should the party win the next general election.
Its action plan consists of a Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, clean-up squads for fly-tippers, extra sanctions on parents of offenders and introducing new Respect Orders.
Labour’s candidate in this month’s by-election, Danny Beales, a former special constable, said: “No wonder local people feel frustrated and powerless as they watch their neighbourhood spiral downwards into crime.
“The Conservatives are failing to punish anti-social thugs in Uxbridge and South Ruislip.”
Both he and his Conservative candidate are claiming the credit for stopping the closure of Uxbridge police station.
Mr Beales said: “Labour is the party of law and order. In government [we] will introduce 13,000 more neighbour police and PCSOs. That’s how we will prevent crime, punish criminals and protect communities.”
Conservative candidate Steve Tuckwell responded: “Labour must think my friends and neighbours here in Uxbridge are fools.
“Everyone knows it's the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who's responsible for crime and policing here. He's the police and crime commissioner for London.”
