DOG owners are being urged to think ahead when it comes to making sure their faithful friend is loved and looked after if something happens to them.
Dogs Trust runs the free Canine Care Card service. It means a dog is automatically cared for if the owner dies, moves into a care home or receives a life-changing diagnosis.
Richard Moore, Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harvil Road, said: “It gives dog owners peace of mind that their dog will be loved for a lifetime.
“We know the bond between an owner and dog is unique and it’s hard to imagine anyone could love and care for their dog as much as they do. But we promise we will.
“We will look after them, either at the centre or in one of our wonderful foster homes and, when the time is right, we will find them a new home.”
Pooches Muffin and Baggins arrived at Harefield as a pair after their owner signed up for the Canine Care Card scheme.
They have since been adopted and have found a new forever home.
Hannah Pierson, owner of Muffin and Baggins, said: “They caught our attention because they seemed like an unusual pairing. When we first met them, they were apprehensive and shy and seemed to miss their old life.
“Now, they are thriving and their personalities are showing!”
Richard Moore added: “None of us knows what’s around the corner so we would urge all dog owners to think ahead.”
