A TOTAL of 361 people in Hillingdon have accessed the Government’s new Breathing Space scheme since it launched in May 2021, according to new figures.
National Debtline – one of the free debt advice charities able to register people for Breathing Space – is urging more to seek advice as the cost of living bites.
Breathing Space, also known as the Debt Respite Scheme, gives people the chance to find a safe route out of debt, without worrying about enforcement.
The scheme provides up to 60 days’ protection.
In the last year, National Debtline helped 429 people in Hillingdon tackle their debts, including through Breathing Space.
To mark Talk Money Week, the charity is urging others worried about their finances to contact its debt advisers for free advice.
David Cheadle, acting chief executive of National Debtline’s parent, the Money Advice Trust, said: “We know there are many more struggling alone and no one should have to do that. I would urge anyone in Hillingdon who is worried about their finances to contact our advisers.”
Hillingdon people can speak to a National Debtline adviser for free on 0808 808 4000 or online at www.nationaldebtline.org
