PLANS are in place for Uxbridge Library to relocate to the Civic Centre in the Spring.
Hillingdon Council’s cabinet will deliberate on the move in December, when it will also consider adding features not currently provided, such as study pods and hireable meeting space.
Exhibition and event spaces will be preserved, along with a learning centre with public computers, charging points for laptops and a children’s library.
Hillingdon says it is bringing the service ‘in house’ because of budget pressures.
Work is already underway on renovating the Civic Centre, to help revitalise the southern end of the High Street.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “Uxbridge Library would remain one of our flagship facilities and a genuine community hub.
“It makes little sense to keep open a building which is energy inefficient and where the space is under-sed, when we can move the library just a very short walk away into a building which will be modernised to the highest standards.”
Plans for the new library will go on display in the current library building from this Friday (10).
