PLANS to relocate Uxbridge Library in the Civic Centre are facing opposition.
Almost 2,500 people have now signed an online petition calling for the council to change its mind, according to Labour’s candidate for the Uxbridge & South Ruislip constituency.
Danny Beales says even in the council’s library strategy, published this year, there is no mention of plans to move Uxbridge library.
He added: “Hillingdon Conservatives won’t be upfront with the public. They have known for months about their plans to close the library but have failed to honestly answer when and if they plan to go ahead with the closure.
“They’re trying to sneak it through the back door and hope people won’t notice, but residents have and they're furious.”
Uxbridge Ward Labour councillor Tony Burles, Uxbridge Ward said: “This decision is deeply unpopular and once again demonstrates the council's poor engagement with residents when implementing such drastic changes.”
A consultation is underway and the council cabinet is due to meet on December 14 to decide the next move.
