A DECISION on plans to move Uxbridge Library into the Civic Centre, due to be made this week, has been re-scheduled for the new year.
Nearly 3,500 residents have so far lent their support to an online petition, urging the council to reverse its plans.
Now, the Labour candidate for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Danny Beales, is pressing Hillingdon Council to explain what he calls rushed proposals to close the high street library.
He says the borough’s library strategy for the current year, recently published, excludes any mention of relocating Uxbridge Library.
He said: “Speaking to people over recent weeks it’s clear how much the library is loved. Young and old rely on facilities like this.
“Closing Uxbridge Library would be a massive blow to the community, and also to the high street, which is suffering.”
