A FLAGSHIP regeneration scheme in Hayes is underway.
Hillingdon Council is working with developers Higgins Partnerships, on the ageing housing estates at Avondale Drive and in Hayes town centre.
Deputy leader Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Cabinet Member for Property Cllr Eddie Lavery and Cabinet Member for Finance Cllr Martin Goddard were joined by representatives of Higgins for a ground-breaking ceremony at both sites.
The regeneration project will provide 740 new homes, for council rent, returning leaseholders, shared ownership and private sale.
Neighbourhood improvements include new open spaces, improved pedestrian and cycle routes, secure car parking, children’s play areas and a new community centre.
The construction will be phased to deliver the affordable housing earlier in the programme.
Phase one will create 110 new homes, 30 at Avondale and 80 in the town centre, with residents expected to move in around summer 2025.
Declan Higgins, Chief Executive Officer at Higgins, said: “These ‘spade in the ground’ ceremonies mark a significant milestone in the start of work to deliver much-needed new sustainable homes.”
The masterplans for both estates were approved in March 2022 following consultation with residents on the designs.
Re-development of the two estates is estimated to run for seven to nine years.
