FOR its next production, Ruislip Dramatic Society returns to the Compass Theatre with a riotous and intricate Alan Ayckbourn comedy, A Chorus of Disapproval.

This ‘show within a show’ features a shy and slightly awkward widower, Guy Jones, who decides to join his local operatic society in a bid to beat his loneliness.

But his inability to say ‘no’ soon has him rising from a one-line part in The Beggar’s Opera to playing the lead.

And the drama onstage is nothing compared to that behind the scenes. Can Guy negotiate dodgy business deals, love interests plus a madcap director and survive to opening night?

This special show has the society, in its 100th anniversary year, pulling out all the stops with a cast of 13, period costumes and even musical numbers.

It will be one of the largest productions staged by the group and promises to provide a theatrical treat.

Now 85, Alan Ayckbourn has become the world’s most performed playwright after Shakespeare and is the first living playwright to be knighted since Noel Coward.
