CHILDREN in Year 6 at Harmondsworth Primary School wrote letters to retailer Wickes as part of a persuasive writing exercise – and it led to the donation of a reading shed.
Their enterprise caught the imagination of the home improvement company.
Emma Read, Year 6 teacher, said: “I never dreamed the letters to Wickes would result in this amazing reading shed.
“We are truly overwhelmed, and the gift will not only provide us with an inspirational place to read but it has taught my class about the power of writing.
“It’s proved so popular we have a rota to use it.”
David Wood, CEO at Wickes, said:” We get hundreds of requests from the community and usually our support is with products such as timber, soil and paint.
“However, [after] receiving such beautifully written letters, we went above and beyond our usual donation.
The Wickes Community Programme is open to community groups seeking help for improvement projects.
