FOR the 12th year in a row, Hillingdon has secured top spot for the number of Green Flag spaces maintained by a council in the UK.
It has retained its 67 Green Flags, which recognise parks and green spaces of the highest calibre.
The awards scheme, run nationally and internationally, is organised by Keep Britain Tidy.
Last year, the council announced a £1m investment in its parks and green spaces, to mark the borough’s diamond jubilee next year.
Work to renovate the bandstand in Barra Hall Park, Hayes, was recently completed, as part of the parks enhancement programme, with improved landscaping, seats, paths and signage coming soon to Bessingby Park in Ruislip Manor.
The annual Green Flag scheme, judged by a group of environmental charities, including Keep Britain Tidy, recognises accessible green spaces and is the national standard for public parks.
Hillingdon has retained its current Green Flag total for the past three years.
