FOUR fire engines and around 25 crew were sent to a fire in Northwood High yesterday (22).

Part of a first-floor flat above a shop was damaged, but there were no reports of any injuries.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “A member of the public called 999 after seeing smoke coming from the roof.

"Smoke alarms were present but were not working.

"This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms fitted on every level of your home. They give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts.”

The brigade was called at 2.59pm and the fire was under control by 4.10. Crews from Stanmore, Harrow and Northolt attended.
