A NEW waiting room and high-tech PET-CT suite were officially opened at Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in Northwood on Tuesday (24).
Cllr Colleen Sullivan, Mayor of Hillingdon, cut the ribbon to the new waiting room alongside Joanne Langfield, chair of the board of trustees, and CEO Claire Strickland.
Claire is the daughter of the late Dr Paul Strickland, who founded the centre in 1985 after leading a major fund-raising drive.
Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, an independent charity co-located with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, specialises in high-quality cancer imaging for NHS and private patients.
Though most patients are from the immediate community, the centre’s reputation and expertise in cancer imaging attract patients from as far as America and the Middle East.
The event marked the end of a multi-million investment in the scanner centre, made possible by donations.
Since 2022, the centre has added two new MRI scanners, a new PET-CT scanner, the new waiting room and a new reporting room, along with a radiology information system for the team of consultants who analyse the scans.
The new scanners can produce higher quality images more quickly than the previous machines.
