HILLINGDON Council leader Ian Edwards has written to the Government, calling for it to reassure residents and honour its commitment to build a new Hillingdon Hospital.
Cllr Edwards told Health Secretary there was deep concern over indications that providing a new hospital was to be reviewed.
Mr Streeting says the New Hospital Programme is undeliverable and unaffordable, with Hillingdon one of 25 projects to be re-assessed.
Cllr Edwards, in his letter, says: “This has caused significant concern among residents, who have been eagerly anticipating the much-needed improvements.
“It is no secret that the current Hillingdon Hospital is in urgent need of modernisation to meet the growing demands of our community,” he adds.
Cllr Edwards points out that, during a visit to the hospital in June, Mr Streeting commented that it was the worst hospital he had ever seen as an MP.
He thought staff and patients were enduring intolerable conditions.”
Cllr Edwards reminded the Health Secretary: “You backed this during your visit by saying ‘I'm making a commitment today that the next Labour government will deliver the modern state-of-the-art hospital the people of Hillingdon need. And we will do it in the first term of a Labour government’.
“I urge you to reassure our community that you are, indeed, a man of your word.”
