SCHOOL attendance in Hillingdon is near the top of the class in UK terms, according to new research.

It is ranked joint sixth with an attendance rate of 94.7%, against a national average of 92%.

Milton Keynes came out top in the analysis of Home Office data undertaken by tutoring organisation Teachers To Your Home.

Gillian Dixon, CEO of Teachers To Your Home, commented: “A high attendance rate is key to ensuring that pupils don't fall behind in their learning, thus preventing any negative impacts on their academic performance in the long term.

“Additionally, low absence is important for social development, as pupils will maintain strong friendships with their peers through regular interaction.

“This is especially important for those in their last years of secondary school. Developing social skills and being able to keep up with their learning are both crucial for the transition after GCSEs.

“It is interesting to see that many of London’s boroughs rank high, suggesting that schools in these areas have excelled in guiding students, parents, and guardians on the importance of attendance rates.”
