WORK on building new homes at two Hayes housing estates reached a major milestone, with a topping-out ceremony on Friday (15).

The ceremony, a builders' rite of passage, signifies the installation of the final beam in a new structure.

Importantly, for people in Hillingdon, it means their new homes are a step closer to completion in this council project.

The first phase will create 110 new homes, with 80 on the Hayes Town Centre estate and an additional 30 at Avondale Drive.

The project will eventually provide 740 new homes in total, 50 per cent of them affordable, as well as public spaces.

The leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, was joined by cabinet members Cllr Jonathan Bianco and Cllr Steve Tuckwell, as well as deputy mayor Cllr Philip Corthorne and representatives from Higgins Partnerships.

Cllr Tuckwell said: “Our priority was to ensure affordable homes were included in the first phases. Council properties are in high demand.”

At Hayes Town Centre, a new community centre will also replace the existing one.

The first phase of redevelopment is expected to finish in autumn 2025, with the whole project estimated to run for seven to nine years.
