Enjoying some good food could give you twice the glow of satisfaction as you help a good cause this Christmas.
A new cookbook, Off Duty, brings together 144 of the favourite home recipes of 48 top chefs from around the world.
Compiled by respected chef David Nicholls, it's raising funds for The Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation, which he started after his son Daniel was left paralysed by a tragic swimming accident.
"The effects of such a simple and tragic accident are devastating, not only in terms of Daniel's future but also for those close to him, our family, friends and associates," he says.
"I guess that when such a life-altering accident occurs, you can go two ways: one route would be to cope or come to terms with it. The other would be to look forward, decide quickly what needs to be done, and set about dealing with it. I chose the latter."
For this reason, Off Duty is dedicated to his son, in the hope that he will one day walk again.
Nicholls, the man behind the food at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London, has roped in food gurus from the UK, USA and Australia to help Daniel and others like him. Recipes by Gary Rhodes, Delia Smith, Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Michel Roux and others are featured in the book.
"The response from my friends in the most inventive kitchens around the world has been incredible. Off Duty has given my charity a flying start, while giving the general public a collection of recipes both achievable and inspiring."
