RUISLIP Rugby Club completed their build-up to the new season with an emphatic win over St Albans by 59-3.

St Albans were relegated last season from London 2 North so the match was expected to be a decent test for Ruislip.

But the visitors did have a bright start and could have scored in the opening exchanges.

As the first quarter came to a close the Maroons finally began to take control and it was no surprise when they took the lead.

TJ Okeshola, the winger, received the ball and found the tryline before fly half Mike Forster kicked the conversion.

Minutes later, Ruislip were awarded a penalty when prop Lee Smith was held up on the line.

The pack created a driving maul and flanker Russell Webb broke clear to dive over.

Barry Henshall was next to score after Alex Fairlie passed to him. An error by St Albans was ruthlessly punished when scrum half Jean-Pierre Greyling made a great pick up and sprinted through for a try.

Ruslip missed a golden opportunity to extend the lead before the break but they were content to go off with a 28-0 advantage to the home side.

Forster wriggled through several tackles to get the first second-half try shortly after the break.

Paul Askew gained possession and played in centre Joe Grehan to increase the scoreline.

Substitute Peter Skinner passed to Luke Batty who found the tryline. Phil Grehan and Mark Whyman scored the last two tries.

Ruislip coach Greg Knights said: "This was a pretty convincing victory and we started to see some of the patterns of play we are looking for with much better links between forwards and backs.

"The signs are that things are coming together at the right time. The new players are also fitting in well.

"The team is now looking for as much support as possible for next week's opening league game at Staines."
